On March 6, 2018 at the session of the Academic council of the Institute the presentation of the collection of articles “Russia and the World in the end of the 19th-first half of the 20th centuries” timed to 85-anniversary of academician B.V.Ananich (1931-2015).

Award winners

 

The award of the President of the Russian Federation for young scientists for 2017 was granted to Cand. Sc. In History, research fellow of the Scientific and Historical Archive of the Institute Nikita Viktorovich Bashnin for his contribution to the research on relations between the state and the Orthodox church, developments of the monastery system and publication of historical sources of 15th-19th centuries.

New book

“Dmitrii Bulanin” publishing house has issued a new publication “Jurnaly Komiteta Zapadnyh Gubernii”, tom 1:1831-1835 gg. (“The Journals of the Committee of the Western Provinces”. Vol. 1: 1831-1835). It was prepared and composed by T.V. Andreeva, I.N. Vibe, B.P. Milovidov, D.N. Shilov.

The Journals of the Committee of the Western Provinces (1831-1835) are highly important historical source on the history of large-scale governmental activities carried out in one of the largest and the most ethnically complicated regions of the Russian Empire, the Western territory, during the first years after th Polish rebellion of 1830-1831. These documents are published completely with no deletions or abridgment and are accompanied by appendix and indexes

In memory of Antonina Fedorovna Tutova

 

On December 26, 2017 Antonina Fedorovna Tutova, who was the head of the Institute’s library in 1978-1998, deceased.

From 1956 till 2014, all her life, Antonina Fedorovna worked in the Library of the Russian Academy of Sciences. She was a kind and considerate person, really loved institute and her job. For several generations of readers the Library of the Institute and memory of Antonina Fedorovna would be inseparable.

A new publication

 

The publishing house of “Pushkin fond” (Izdatelstvo “Pushkinskogo fonda”) issued a new book in a series “Gosudarstvennye deyateli Rossii glazami sovremennikov” (Russian statesmen through the eyes of contemporaries) “S.Yu. Witte in the memoirs of contemporaries” composed and edited by I.V. Lukoianov, SPb., 2018 (ISBN 978-5-9500595-2-0).

Sergei Yulyevich Witte had a great influence on the development of Russia. Due to his efforts Russian economy in 1890s-1900s was growing. He saved the monarchy insisting on Nicholas II signing the Manifesto of the October 17th giving Russian people basic civil liberties. Being an opponent to war with Japan Witte wasn’t able to prevent it, but succeeded in making acceptable peace.

Numerous evidences of both associates and opponents of Witte, included in this book, present the readers not only a strong but contradictory person, they also offer a description of conflicting epoch of the two last Russian emperors when the destiny of the country was at stake.

The 36th volume of “Auxiliary historical disciplines”

 

“Dmitrii Bulanin” publishing house issued the next 36th volume of collection of articles “Auxiliary historical disciplines” (“Auxiliary sciences of history”/”Vspomogatelnye istoricheskie discipliny”, ISBN 978-5-86007-841-3). It incorporates articles on different aspects of auxiliary sciences of history: the documents on Medieval Russian history, the Peter the Great era, Russian history of the 19th-20th centuries are put under examination. The articles of this book reflect modern approaches to different source studying disciplines (archaeography, diplomatics, epigraphy, etc.). All the articles and materials are published for the first time ever.
This publication has been issued with grant support from the Russian Foundation for Basic Research (project №17-01-16059). Totally not for sale.

Collection of documents

 

The collection of documents “Stenogrammy zasedanij ispolkoma Leningradskogo gorodskogo Soveta. Zapisi obsuzhdenij, zamechanij k proektam, reshenija nojabr’ 1941—dekabr’ 1942 gg.” has been issued by “Art-Express” publishers (ISBN 978-5-4391-0341-6).

Publication of the materials from the Central State Archive of Saint Petersburg is the first one of this kind. The stenographs of speeches of Soviet leaders show the readers apart from tragedy of the first winter of the Blockade tense and desperate struggle for restoration and preservation of the city infrastructure vital for hundreds of thousands of Leningrad residents. Moreover, the published documents shed a new light on everyday work of Leningrad administration in the extreme period of the history of this great city.

This publication is dedicated to the memory of historians, who studied the Siege of Leningrad, Andrey Rostislavovich Dzeniskevich and Valentin Mihailovich Kovalchuk.
